Naturally Glowing: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish

Lindsey's Top: Elizabeth & James / Face: MAC Mineralized Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle / Eyes: Dior Diorshow Waterproof Mascara in Black
Summer is the perfect time to lighten up your makeup and opt for a warm, healthy glow. We love MAC Mineralized Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle ($29) for its fabulous glow- inducing abilities. It is a pressed powder swirled with bronzer and pearly highlighter. In the photo above, I started by sweeping the bronzer across my cheekbones. Click here to see a previous post on how to create sculpted cheekbones with blush or bronzer. Next, I brushed on a bit of the highlighter down the my temples toward the top of my cheekbones. Then, I dabbed a little on the brow bones, just below my eyebrow arches. I also applied a bit down the bridge of my nose. A touch of sheer pearly shimmer in these places really does make the face appear more luminous - not shiny or greasy. The overall effect is a warm, skin-brightening glow. We like that the coverage is sheer but also buildable.

Kevin Murphy Color Bug Colored Hair Shadow

In Mary's Hair: Kevin Murphy Color Bug in Orange / Dress: Zara
Necklace: Claborn Specialties Boutique
The neon streaks of hair seen on the models at Oscar de la Renta's resort show have inspired us to get more experimental with color. Instead of clipping in a hair piece, as was done on the runway models, I used a product I've been holding onto for months now and have been wanting to try out. It's Kevin Murphy Color Bug ($24), a powder compact for hair that delivers temporary color to your strands. The surface of Color Bug looks quite similar to a blush compact. What we love about this formula is that it requires no long-term commitment. It washes out easily in the shower. All you do is rub the powder compact against your hair. The intensity of the color is adjustable... Rub lightly for subtle color. Rub it more vigorously onto your strands for intense color. The shade I used above is Orange. It's also available in Pink and Purple. I applied Color Bug generously to a single lock of hair in the photo above because I wanted the color to be strong and mimic the effect of a clip-in hair strand. You could also rub it in to the end of your strands for a colored ombré effect, which we can't wait to try! Stay tuned for instructional photos on how to apply Color Bug to your hair- hopefully we will be able to post those soon! We'll be going for ombré ends in that one.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain 3-in-1 Lacquer

Mary's Lips: YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain in Rose Pastelle / Eyes: Lancome Artliner Precision Point EyeLiner in Brown / Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara

We're in love with a new lip product that's unlike anything we've ever before used. It's Yves Saint Laurent's Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain - #18 ($34), and right now, it's at the top of Sephora's Hot Now List. In the photo above, Mary is wearing in Rose Pastelle, which is a cool, natural shade of pink. What makes this product so amazing is that it has staying power similar to that of a lip stain, but it feels glossy and smooth like a lip gloss. The YSL Glossy Stain feels interesting on the lips - we can tell that the color is gripping to our lips but not in the uncomfortable way that many lip stains do. It doesn't dry our lips out. As you can see from the photo, it looks glossy and shiny on the lips. It definitely stays on longer than a typical lip gloss. There are nineteen shades of it available at Sephora. The Rouge Laque - #9, a gorgeously hot shade of red, is only available online.

Amazing Eye Creams You Should Know About

Product images courtesy myer.com.au, unineed.com, amazon.com
We cannot overemphasize the importance of a good eye cream. The eyes are one of the first places to show signs of aging, and it's the one area of your face that deserves the utmost care and love. That being said, an eye cream is not the product to cut corners on when it comes to price. A good one will cost you, but the youthful results should prove well worth it in the end. We've always been very diligent about protecting our eyes, and in this post we'll share with you the best eye creams we've used. We'll start with the one we've been using the longest, Lancôme Rénergie Eye Multiple Action Eye Cream ($78). It's a fantastic two-step product in which you first apply the eye cream and then finish with a few dabs of a sheer concealer-like veil. The eye cream is available in three shades of the concealing veil: Light, Medium (our shade), and Dark. Rénergie Eye Cream is hydrating and lightweight, and most importantly a great anti-aging formula. As soon as we dab the concealer-like veil around our lids, our eye areas look instantly better. Because it's extremely sheer, it makes a great base for actual concealer or foundation. Another excellent eye product we've been using as of late is Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye, which can be ordered for $49.50 from Nordstrom.com (we love their free shipping and return policy). This silky serum is anti-aging intensive and designed for nighttime use. We like that it repairs past damage and helps our eyes appear more rested in the morning. Finally, an eye cream that has most recently impressed us is Arbonne RE9 Advanced Corrective Eye Crème ($55). One of the first things we noticed when using it is that a tiny dab is all you need for your eyes to feel fabulously moisturized. One thing that can be really frustrating when it comes to eye creams is having to apply a lot of product for the eyes to feel quenched. This particular eye cream is a great buy since a little truly goes a long way. The formula is very hydrating and feels wonderful on our skin. Over time, RE9 Advanced Corrective Eye Cream diminishes eye puffiness and circles, and we really like that it's plant-based and animal-friendly. Click here for a previous post on how to amp up your eye care routine with Vaseline... and here for a post on how celebrities use Aquaphor as part of their eye and skincare regimens. Both posts are must-reads if you care about fighting signs of aging! Happy Friday!

How To Get Spray Tan Results At Home

Mary's Shorts: Zara Combined Printed Shorts / Blouse: Zara Shirt With Applique On Collar / Heels: Gucci / Lipstick: Sephora + Pantone Color of the Year Tangerine Tango Cream Lipstick
In this post, I'm going to share my secret for getting almost-as-good-as-airbrush-tanning results at home. Whether you don't have time to schedule a spray tan appointment or you're just trying to save a little cash, it is possible to achieve gorgeous dark color on your own. To get bronze color like mine in the photo above, you will need the right tools. After showering and exfoliating, I slather on two generous coats of L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Self Tanning Lotion in Deep Natural, which is under $9 at Drugstore.com. After applying the first coat, I immediately apply another... this includes two generous coats on my face and neck. I apply the self-tanner more sparingly on my elbows, knees, ankles, and the top of my feet. The only body part I skip on this step is the top of my hands. After you have applied two coats of the L'Oreal Sublime Self Tanning Lotion, immediately wash your hands thoroughly. Next, I use L'Oreal Sublime ProPerfect Salon Airbrush Self-Tanning Mist ($9.50). I spray one coat generously from the neck down. I do not spray this on my face. Be sure to spray a lighter mist over your ankles and feet and finish by spraying the top of your hands and fingers. Don't rub in anything! Avoid getting self-tanner on the palms of your hands because you should not wash your hands after this step. I often do this routine before bed because I like to wake up with nice, dark color in the morning. When you wake up, slather on Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer ($9). I use the Medium - Tan shade. Continue doing this in the evening and the following morning. As the week continues, add another coat of L'Oreal Sublime Self Bronze Tanning Lotion and a mist of L'Oreal Sublime Airbrush Tanning Mist as needed. You may start noticing that the tops of your hands and feet are looking slightly darker than the rest of your body... if this happens, just avoid spraying the tanning mist on those body parts. Only spray it where you need more color. I always love how my color turns out when following these steps! If for some reason you don't like your results, take a hot shower, and it will tone down the color. If you have any questions at all about this, please don't hesitate to leave a comment or send me a message, and I will be happy to clarify anything for you!

Buxom Big And Healthy Lip Polish

Lindsey's Blouse: Elizabeth & James / Lips: Buxom Big and Healthy Lip Polish / Eyes: Dior Diorshow Waterproof Mascara in Black
We love a great lip plumping gloss. Here's a quick post on one of our favorite volume boosting lip glosses. It's Buxom Big and Healthy Lip Polish ($18), which Lindsey is wearing in the above photo. The shade pictured above is Samantha, which is a light pinky nude. We like that this lip gloss improves our lip shape and makes them look a bit fuller. It's slightly tingling on the lips, but not overwhelmingly so. The gloss has vitamins A and E in it, so it feels nice and smooth on. The formula is sheer and has a pretty shine to it. It looks good by itself or over lipstick and liner. Buxom Lip Polish comes in 26 shades... some of the corals and light pinks are absolutely gorgeous.

Neon Green Jeans + Dior Pink Caprice Lipstick

Mary's Jeans: Textile Elizabeth & James Sunny Lime Jeans / Heels: Gucci / Shirt: Elizabeth & James Lips: Dior Rouge Lipcolor in Pink Caprice
I'll start with the jeans since I am so crazy about neons right now. They're Textile Elizabeth and James Neon Mick Jeans in Sunny Lime. They were $225, but they now appear to be available on Madewell.com for over 40% off. I should have blogged about these sooner. In a blog post from a couple of months ago on colored jeans (click here), I mentioned that this pair was on the way to my mailbox (a sweet gift from my sister!). They are super stretchy and comfortable and have side zips at the ankles. They feel unusually soft for denim, which I really like. One important thing you need to know about these jeans is that you will ruin them if you wash them. Lindsey got this pair in hot pink, and they faded terribly in the washing machine. That being said, dry cleaning is the only safe option. I love the way this bright lime color looks with my electric pink lilac lipstick. It's Dior Rouge Dior Lipcolor in Pink Caprice #475 ($32). This shade of lipstick is electric. You will not go unnoticed in it. I love, love, love it. The formula feels wonderful on the lips and has great lasting power. The contrast between the lipstick and jeans is bold and fun and very on-trend this summer. Now is the time to try making a strong color statement! Stay on the lookout for a blog post soon on our favorite color combos for summer.

Deep Purple Lips For Every Season

Lindsey & Mary's Lips: Estee Lauder Pure Color Lip Gloss Shimmer in Plum Divine / Left to Right: Rag and Bone Legging Jean in Neon Hot Pink / Blank NYC Spray On Jeans in Spearmint
Sometimes we're in a dark mood. We know it's summer, and we love our neons, but there's never a season that we don't like a deep purple lip. It's romantic and a little mysterious. The color we're wearing in the above photo is Estee Lauder Pure Color Lip Gloss Shimmer in Plum Divine ($22.50). We have a little lipstick on underneath for bolder impact. Scroll below to see Plum Divine in the tube, which is the second shade of gloss on the left. The gloss's shimmer is subtle, and this one is good about staying on the lips. If you like the deep purple look but would prefer less shine, try Dior Rouge Dior Lip Color in Mysterious Mauve (#786) ($32). (click here and here to see the Dior shade on Lindsey). Mysterious Mauve is a stunning shade of purple lipstick. If you never have before, try a deep purple shade! Have a wonderful Friday!

Part II: Smoky Jewel Tone Eyes

Mary's Eyes: Lancome Color Design Eye Shadow in Pose / The green & dark brown shadows in the Sensational Effects Quad: Modern Edge

As promised, here is an example of our experimentation with the colorful smoky eye trend. Mary's lids are a variation of the smoky green eyes that inspired us at Jason Wu's fall show. We also added a bit of gold and matte chocolate brown. All the shadows are by Lancome. We started with a green base all over the eyelids, using the green shadow in the Lancome Color Design Sensational Effects Quad ($43). Next, we added a shimmery bronze, Lancome Color Design Eye Shadow in Pose ($18), around the tear duct. Then, we followed with a bit of matte brown shadow on the outer edge of the lids, which is also from the Sensational Effects Quad. Finally, we dabbed just a touch more of the green shadow in the middle with our fingertip. For a tutorial on how to get the cat eye using liquid liner, click here - if you're going for the look in the above photo, just use black liner instead of brown. The liquid liner pictured above is L'Oreal Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liner, which is under $10 at Drugstore.com. Mary's mascara is Lancome Definicils High Definition Mascara in Black ($26).

Ikat Jeans + Chevron Nails

Lindsey's Jeans: 7 For All Mankind / Tank: Patterson J. Kincaid / Nails: Orly Foil FX Manicure Kit

When it comes to interior design, we are crazy about ikat patterns. We had a feeling these cool ethnic fabrics would inspire fashion designers as well and the results would be amazing.  Case in point: Lindsey's on-trend Diamond Summer Jeans by 7 For All Mankind ($189). Her navy and silver chevron patterned nails, achieved with Orly French FX Nails Kit ($15) from Beauty.com, are the perfect compliment. The nail kit was not quite as easy as we thought it would be to apply... the results weren't exactly perfect. However, a bevy of compliments on the chevron tips made up for it. No one seemed to notice the little imperfections of the paint job. Plus, the polish stayed on extremely well, without any chipping for a week. The cool thing about this nail kit is that you can get creative with it... You can opt for the trendy chevron style that we love or you can go for a different look, such as a slick of silver just on the tips or even a reverse-mani style, with a mini crescent of silver at the bottom of each nail near the cuticle. The kit includes a silver and a navy polish as well as a all-in-one base and topcoat. A guide on how to paint white tips and chevron tips is also included. Overall, we recommend this kit only if you have patience. Otherwise, we suggest requesting a chevron style from a manicurist. Either way, now is the time to get experimental with your nails! Break out of your comfort zone and give it a try ;).

Our Favorite Bronze Eye Shadow

Lindsey's Cheeks: Nars Blush in Deep Throat / Eyes: Lancome Color Design Sensational Effects Eye Shadow in Pose + Too Faced Eye Shadow in Sexpresso
We recently shared an eye shadow tip with you on how to create gorgeous depth (click here to read that post). In the photo above, Lindsey is wearing two shades of shadow we love to combine to create depth. The base bronze shade is one of our favorite shimmery shadows. It's Lancome Color Design Sensational Effects Eye Shadow in Pose ($18), and it looks good on everyone. This coppery bronze is appropriate for day and night. The reason we like Lancome eye shadows so much is because the powders are such great quality - very pigmented and easily blendable. To create depth, we used Too Faced Eye Shadow in Sexpresso ($17) in the crease of her lids. Remember - swipe shimmery eye shadow on the base of the lids and a matte shadow in the crease if you want depth. Happy Friday!

Hot Summer Lipstick: Sephora + Pantone Color of the Year Tangerine Tango

Mary's Lipstick: Sephora + Pantone Color of the Year Tangerine Tango Cream Lipstick / Blouse: Zara
Tangerine is our new favorite lip color for summer. This warm and vibrant shade is a great, instant way to update your look. Pantone has dubbed tangerine it's color of the year, so now is the time to try it. In the photo above, I am wearing Sephora + Pantone Universe Color of the Year Tangerine Tango Cream Lipstick, ($13). This hot shade is currently unavailable on Sephora.com, but I was lucky enough to snag a tube from the store. It looks striking and quite flattering on. I love it paired with matching tangerine nails. This is the first time I have tried a Sephora Collection lipstick, and I really like the way it feels on my lips. It is very creamy and shiny. If you can't get your hands on this shade because it's sold out, try one of the orange lipsticks I mentioned in yesterday's post: Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain Jewel Lipstick in Gipsy ($48) or Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipstick in Latin Lover ($12).

Bright Yellow Nails Inspired By Proenza Schouler S/S 2012

Mary's Top: Patterson J. Kincaid / Nails: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color in Lightening
This is a great bold shade of yellow nail polish that I think works well on a variety of skin tones. It is Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color in Lightening, which is under $5 at Drugstore.com. I initially loved this hue in the bottle and pictured it looking amazing with a tan this summer... but I wasn't sure if I would like it with pale skin. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it looks without a tan. It also looks fabulous on darker skin (see model Liya Kebede below). This fast drying formula is my favorite Sally Hansen polish. It took only a couple minutes to dry. You may remember our recent post on our favorite nail polishes used at spring runway shows... Perfect Formula's Pollen ($15), seen at Proenza Schouler (here). made our list of top shades. I think the Sally Hansen polish I'm wearing above looks almost identical. Close enough for me!
